Payments & Refunds

This page explains how payments, cancellations, and refunds work on KenyanTutors.com for both students/parents/guardians and tutors.

Current position: KenyanTutors.com does not process lesson payments on-site at this stage. Tutors are self-employed and set their own rates and availability.

Last updated: 11 January 2026

What this means in practice

Payment arrangements are made directly between the tutor and the student/parent or guardian. Any refunds (if applicable) are handled directly by the tutor under the tutor’s own terms.

For students & parents/guardians

Before paying, confirm the tutor’s rate, lesson length, payment method, cancellation rules, and refund terms. If a tutor offers package pricing or requires advance payment, ask what happens if a lesson is cancelled or rescheduled.

For tutors

Set clear payment, cancellation, and refund terms and communicate them before lessons begin. If you request advance payment or offer packages, define how rescheduling and refunds work so expectations are clear.

1. Payments

KenyanTutors.com currently functions as a discovery and profile platform. Tutors and students/parents/guardians agree payments directly. The Platform is not the merchant of record for tutoring lessons and does not hold lesson funds in escrow.

  • Tutors set their own rates: hourly rate, package rate, and lesson duration are decided by the tutor.
  • Payment methods: the tutor and student/parent or guardian choose the payment method (for example, mobile money, bank transfer, cash, or other agreed options).
  • Receipts: if required, request a receipt directly from the tutor.

2. Bookings, cancellations, and rescheduling

Each tutor may have different rules. Students/parents/guardians should confirm the tutor’s policy in writing (message/email) before paying. Tutors should communicate their policy clearly before lessons begin.

  • Notice periods: tutors may require notice (for example, 24 hours) to cancel or reschedule without charge.
  • Late cancellations/no-shows: tutors may charge a fee or treat the lesson as payable if notice is not given.
  • Tutor cancellations: where a tutor cancels, the tutor should offer rescheduling or an appropriate refund/credit in line with their stated terms.

3. Refunds

Because KenyanTutors.com does not process lesson payments, the Platform does not issue lesson refunds. Refund decisions and processing are handled directly by the tutor. Students/parents/guardians should request refunds directly from the tutor using the tutor’s stated policy.

  • Advance payments: if you pay in advance, confirm whether the payment is refundable and under what conditions.
  • Packages: where a tutor sells a package of lessons, confirm what happens to unused lessons if learning needs change or lessons are paused.
  • Quality concerns: if the issue is teaching style/fit rather than misconduct, discuss this with the tutor and consider switching tutors.

4. Disputes and complaints

If there is a dispute about payment or refunds, the tutor and student/parent or guardian should first attempt to resolve it directly. Where appropriate, KenyanTutors.com may review concerns and take reasonable steps within the Platform (for example, restricting or removing a profile), but the Platform is not a party to the tutoring contract and cannot enforce payment outcomes.

5. Safety reminders

  • Confirm lesson details and terms before paying (rate, duration, payment method, cancellation/refund terms).
  • Keep a record of communications and payment confirmations.
  • Use payment methods you trust and that provide appropriate proof of payment where possible.

6. Future updates

If KenyanTutors.com introduces on-site payments in the future (for example, card payments, escrow, or platform fees), this page will be updated to describe the refund rules, timelines, and processes for the new payment system.

Important: KenyanTutors.com does not currently facilitate lesson payments. Tutors are self-employed and set their own rates and availability. Refunds, cancellations, and rescheduling are agreed directly between tutor and student/parent or guardian.
